3088 ADVANCEMENTS IN TECHNOLOGY


MEDICAL ADVANCEMENTS

x.1//CEREBRAL IMPLANT
The most common medical advancement is the Federation's Cerebral Implant. Though available in various levels from hacked to homemade, the most promiment one is the Cerecore Drive 11BX - outfitted into the majority of Halcyon's personnel. The most notable feature of this particular implant is the advancement in technology that it provides: immortality. Several options exist within the science behind the Cerecore in that it can be set to read or write on various levels. At its most raw form, a blank Core would record and adapt along with the brain it is attached to in a symbiotic way. It would store the memories since its implementation and save all of the brain's thoughts and experiences. Everything is stored short of the Core's "sense of self," which passes along with the human aspect. From there, however, the core can be retrieved and embedded in a cloned body - with the right resources, of course.

This is not without consequence. The stored data hardly goes back far enough for the clone to retain all of its memories. Because of this, there is a rehabilitation period where memory simulations are used to help stimulate the clean brain's growth. Along with these broadcasts are subliminal command lines. This means that tampering may take place in-between insertion. Due to the size and the sensitivity of the data, tampering is more likely to "kill" the patient rather than create false memory. At this time the precision of such tinkering is limited to less than a dozen of scientists worldwide. Most often, through the monolithic cruelty of Halcyon Command, even their own personnel's Cores are torn asunder in search of statistical data and investigation, impossible to reassemble again. Those fortunate enough to find themselves resurrected are generally very valuble or have come with something useful. Any genetic trace, any small amount of DNA, can produce the cloned body. However, some amateur practitioners of these sciences may have underground facilities to produce cloned DNA as well. The conditions may simply have some... side-effects.

The pirated and hacked versions offer more frills, with memory-sculpting becoming an art to those who would sell dreams and fantasies to the desperate. Though dangerous, some engage in the procedure of having not only clean Cores but also the filled Cores of the deceased into their own skulls. The perversion of being able to bathe in another's life is a form of escapism that many downtrodden citizens look for on the black market.


x.2//GENETIC GRAPHTING
The same advancement that makes cloning possible is the technology which allows for genetic regrowth. Not to be confused with regeneration, this procedure allows for science to grow and attach new limbs in a way that does not alter the patient's physiology. In extreme cases, where an entire body is necessary, DNA is grown and molded by professionals so that a Core or an AI can be placed within.


x.3//NANOTECHNOLOGY
The most luxurious of technologies and yet the least understood is nano-science. Through the insertion of nanoscopic machinery, organs can be reinforced at a level that the body not only adapts to but embraces. With the insertion of machinery directly into the skin, skin cells are able to reproduce at an alarming rate. Though it would create a shield from fire, hair and nails would have to be cut regularly and the patient would develop a thicker "hide" or perhaps even lose all of their hair altogether. Some are outfitted with nano-batteries which work to enhance the blood and fuel more regenerative abilities, though it also increases their white blood cell count and can cause the body to feed off of itself. Some even go so far as to enhance their hearing, sight, or pheremones with nano-machinery. No matter what advantage the patient seeks, nano-machines require a constant, steady intake of nutrients to enter the body in order to fight off the imperfections and possible side-effects.


x.4//BIOMECHANICS
As a science mostly practiced in sport, mechanical limbs rarely work flawlessly. Advancements in the dexterity and precision of mechanical limbs took to the backseat in research during the Extinction Event. It is certainly the least luxurious alternative when compared to the flawless symmetry of nanotechnology and regeneration available. However, mechanical organs and appendages can oftentimes be found as the choice of mercenaries and those who are prone to violence. The option to find and reinforce black market lungs, kidneys, eyes, arms, or legs makes it easy for a soldier, rebel, or criminal to acquire more resilient organs. Of course once they've given up a particular organ they may never see it again. In some instances, underground groups with pirated or infant technologies may give (or take) more than you bargained for. Always bare in mind that while kidneys are filters and eyes can send and receive electronic impulses to the brain, you may leave with new eyes and ears only to leave without your precious human heart.
The majority of controlled, bio-mechanical studies found within Halcyon have provided startling results. It is noted through research that once more than 15% (or three organs) of the human body is converted to a mechanical nature there is a visible taint on their psyche. Further replacement of biological organs can create longterm psychic trauma. Some exceptional cases may show greater adaptation than others, though most subjects become withdrawn, developing depression or rage as a result of their minds being unable to cope. The human mind can sense "ghost limbs" in place of where their biological limbs should be, though their mechanical limbs react reflexively in a way that hardly replaces the original. It also drives the subject into more impulsie behavior and as result biomechanics has become popular amongst criminals and rebels. Halcyon, with intentions of keeping their own expirements focused, outfits all of its cybernetically-enhanced personnel with Cerebral Implants. This maintains a record of memories in the event of malfunction as well as a way to gauge and prosecute criminal charge - or in the worst case, insurrection.


WEAPONS ADVANCEMENTS


x.1//FIREARMS
The aftermath of the nuclear war left the population of Earth scrambling to survive. Only in the last number of generations has there even been a return of the technologies enjoyed by the general populations of the 21st century. These technologies have been solely almost entirely on two goals: reconstruction of the world's infrastructure and medical advancement. Weaponry development, as a consequence, has come to a grinding halt on the global scale. Firearms are still in great abundance, but many remain the same models as were widely available in the 2020s.

x.2//MELEE
There is a wide assortment of melee weapons available in Alpha 47-122. This ranges from pratical items such as a baseball bat to master-fully crated swords from the ancient arts. Swords, Daggers, and the like are often sold through black market channels.
x.3//EXPLOSIVES

Explosives are 100% illegal in Alpha 47-122. Any item carrying more more than a bullet's worth of gun powder is usually discovered by the various sensor systems scattered through out the city. Once located on your person, the penalty for explosives is often a life-term in a detention center.
