Combat and meter applications

Meter Applications

There has been some concern about which comes first, the chicken or the egg. Or in this case – The roleplay or the meter? Well, I will tell you : The roleplay. Meters are a wonderful tool, when used thoughtfully. They can add an exciting element to a SIM – but they are never meant to govern the SIM.

When thinking of engaging someone, please make sure you first engage them via roleplay first. This doesn’t mean you have to run up and smack them with a chair – but at least a few minutes of solid descriptive roleplay will suffice. Now, being that meters are a tool and by entering the SIM people are agreeing to participate in meter combat – I will not set limitations on number of lines. Instead, I implore you to remember we are here to first and foremost, roleplay and develop intricate and exciting stories. Use your best judgment on a situation.

With that being said, I would also like to say that I highly encourage roleplay combat. I know some people are rather uncomfortable with the idea due to bad experiences with “God Moders” – but those situations can easily be avoided if everyone keeps the following in mind:

A) Every character is mortal. There is –no- character which can limit death. We have a resurrection policy to handle such instances as well as an iron-clad kill policy (Please refer to the Kill Policy found in the Rules Notecard under the Combat Section)
B) Refer above. With that being said, people should be more cautious when engaging.
C) Pain. It hurts. Fear it.
D) Attempt are to be left open ended. You don’t just PUNCH the person – you TRY to punch them. You always must give people room to react. Let them surprise you – do not decide how the out-come will be.
E) Pain. It hurts. Fear it.
F) There are –NO- Gods in 3088 (Other than the Administration of course, but that’s OOC) – embrace weaknesses at time. Allow your character to fail and to become injured. After all, failure is apart of life. You need not block every oncoming barrage – think quality roleplay. Not merely ipwn.

With that being said, I want to remind everyone that 3088 is a combat roleplay SIM. It has been set up in a way that the city is torn by internal conflict and warfare. That is part of what keeps our SIM dynamic. There will be over-throws, captures, interrogations, thieving, bribery, riots, terrorist attacks, deaths, reconstructions, and so much more. Regardless of what happens, everyone must remember it’s merely part of a story; whether you are the attacker or victim – use engagement as an opportunity for character building.

Side Note:
Mercenary contracts are good for a single use. Repeated killing of a player will result in administration intervention and consequences. If multiple people put a contract out on someone – then a single kill (Or some cases Capture) will satisfy contractual requirements. Vengeance is considered achieved after a successful “kill”. There is no need to take out contracts in rapid succession against a single person.

Administrators are always available to resolve disputes on a case-by-case basis. If you ever feel a combat situation has been mishandled, please contact one and have the issue resolved. It is the most quick, dramaless, and efficient way to ensure maximum enjoyment for all participants of 3088. We are here for you. Please have a notecard log of the issue available.
